I feel the need to share my story.
I've been rediscovering the world for at least the last ten years. Learning to see every detail outside of the old structures I'd forced upon it.
To me, MAGA-thinking is a betrayal of every Christian principle. I blame the evangelical church for our autocratic nightmare--and I was an evangelical church leader for twenty years. I helped build the thinking that led us into this mess.
I've spoken my heart. A few publicly condemned me. (After all, if you don't support Trump, you can't “really” be Christian.)
A few privately supported me.
And so on…
I've turned away from the church as an organization, and like I said, I'm rediscovering the world. I'm challenging myself to look with clear eyes at all the things we previously condemned. So much of it is a distraction, keeping us focused on what others do as we comfortably strip others of the rights we demand for ourselves.
I'm still not sure what faith looks like outside of all that, but that's my journey.

After 70 years I have come to the view that all forms of ideology are control mechanisms and nothing more. This applies to religion, politics, and economics. I fail to see how all the vast complexity , creativity, intelligence and spiritual experience can be distilled down to a choice between left or right, red or blue, my god or your god. Speaking specifically about religion I have a spiritual life that is far closer to Spinoza’s god in nature as one than anything else. This makes me a deist in some minds and bound for a hell that does not exist. We must all find our own way to truth and peace.
Religion and politics are moral except when they meet behind their spouses backs.
